It's been a few days since the last post of interest and seen as there is about 1 person even reading this blog at the moment the incentive isn't at an all time high. Although that isn't the reason for starting the blog, it still helps to know I'm not typing into space.
My topic of interest today is the psyche of a rock climber. I love climbing. End of story. But due to recent events in the last couple of years I have not had the chance to go climbing. This is concerning to me as for my stag do we went to an indoor wall, not only was I totally unable to climb, finding myself weak and full of bad technique, I couldn't even remember a figure of 8 knot! I was embarrassed! What kind of self respecting climber can't even tie in? Me!
But this is just meant as a little bit of background knowledge. Yesterday I gave a talk and in it I gave an analogy about one time climbing Almcliff, Yorkshire. I now have the bug. Or more commonly referred to as "the itch" I have been itching to go out climbing for a while but after yesterday and the ensuing conversations with someone who climbs, I want to get out there into the countryside and climb some big whack off rock face!
Is this natural? Is this a common ailment of climbers across the world? Is the constant enticing of the rock more luring than mermaids to wondering sailors? Or in modern news... Is this desire to be out in nature climbing to new heights louder than Con. Gaddaffis wardrobe? (Questions about this comment just look at the news clips of Gaddaffi over the last few years! From Jedi to Jacko) Anyways. Is this longing for the rock common across other hobbies or not?
Just to let to know how much I've been wanting to go climbing I started watching Hollywood climbing films, from the good ones like "touching the void" through to the downright "amazing" that depict a brother carrying nitrate to save his sister who is trapped at the top of K2! Big explosions and ill climbing technique is a winning formula when combined with the worst acting America has to offer! ;)
So who wants to go climbing? I think just to calm my desires I might have to go boulder an indoor wall for an hour tomorrow. But anyone looking for a Saturday of real climbing please look me up!
